Born in Yorkshire, Clabrough learned the trade from his father and then, in 1857, traveled to the U.S. and crossed the continent. Author Lawrence P. Shelton, a regular exhibitor of firearms and other weapons, took an interest in Clabrough's life story and spent 20 years researching and writing this book.
