"THREE YEARS IN THE CONFEDERATE HORSE ARTILLERY: A GUNNER IN CHEW'S BATTERY, STUART'S HORSE ARTILLERY, ARMY OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA" By George M. Neese published by The Neale Publishing Company 1911 reprint by Old South Books. Published originally in 1911, these are the memoirs of George Neese during his service as a gunner in Chew's Battery, Stuart's Horse Artillery, Army of Northern Virginia in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Includes Brandy Station, Culpeper Court House, the Crater, being a prisoner at the infamous Point Lookout Prison in Maryland and more. A great primary source on the War for Southern Independence. Unionists and Secessionists, many of whom lived under the same roofs in this divided country. Around the country families were torn apart, people were thrown in jail without trial if they were suspected of being for the South here in Maryland, women could be charged with treason or prostitution if they wore "rebel colors" in their clothing or even failed to smile for union troops. A lynch mob in Hagerstown burned a newspaper office that dare publish an editorial saying that succession was not against the Constitution and that union was not worth the cost in lives and property that was being paid by the people of Maryland. At least one free Black, the ancestor of a friend of mine, left his farm in Maryland to go south and join the Army of Northern Virginia. He would receive a pension from Virginia until his death in the 1930's. The real reasons for why people choose to join either side in the war was much more complex than many biased modern "historians" will admit. This book adds another very interesting look at a terrible war. 236 pages. Brand new condition. Selling on other sites for over $60.00 in this brand new condition.

♦ RANDOM ENCOUNTERS MAGAZINE ♦ This is the Summer 2023 issue of The Game Master's Book of Random Encounters by Jeff Ashworth. It's actually a Magazine. Published by Topix Media Lab. Inside are fully customizable settings, tables, and story hooks to create 5th Edition RPG adventures on demand. This heavily illustrated magazine is filled with 98 pages. See Table of Contents for this issue's articles. This magazine has no rips. No tears. No stains. Unread and in mint condition. For many tabletop RPG players, the joy of an in-depth game is that anything can happen. Typical adventure modules include a map of the adventure's primary location, but every other location--whether it's a woodland clearing, a random apothecary or the depths of a temple players elect to explore--has to be improvised on the fly by the Gamemaster. As every GM knows, no matter how many story hooks, maps or NPCs you painstakingly create during session prep, your best-laid plans are often foiled by your players' whims, extreme skill check successes (or critical fails) or their playful refusal to stay on task. In a game packed with infinite possibilities, what are GMs supposed to do when their players choose those for which they're not prepared? I accept Shipping service is your choice. This 7-ounce magazine will be wrapped in a plastic bag and ship in a Manila envelope for First Class. Ground Select option will be wrapped in a plastic bag plus have light cardboard on each side and ship in a Manila envelope. Priority will have extra cardboard and Bubblewrap in a Priority flat rate envelope. On the outside I'll write in bold red HANDLE WITH CARE.
